I started playing bass when I was 15 - just on a whim at the time with no
expectations about where it would take me. I had a dodgy Fender copy with badly warped neck, weighing in at roughly the same as a small tree and needing an industrial vice to keep the strings pressed down on the frets. I taught myself from playing along to bands where you could actually hear the bass lines (Iron Maiden, Rush, RHCP)
I spent the next 15 years or so playing in various local bands, writing a few songs and hoping to catch the bus to stardom which, much like the 192 to Piccadilly, so seldom
arrives when you want it to.
Still love listening to Rush, AC-DC and Pink Floyd, also Primus, The Raconteurs, Eagles, Jackson Browne, Tom Waits (a man who could read from a telephone directory and make it sound good) and too many others to mention.
